Parameter Setting Procedure for KONGSBERG RDIO420S (316564)
Pre-Configuration Preparation
Complete hardware installation including DIN-rail mounting, 24 V DC power wiring and proper connection of RBUS fieldbus shielded twisted-pair cable.
Make sure the RBUS bus termination resistor is installed at the physical end of each bus segment.
Set up a K-Chief / AIM commissioning PC with Kongsberg AIM Engineering Tool pre-installed.
Document the module serial number and designated RBUS node address. Every RDIO420S unit shall occupy a unique node address within the RBUS network.
Hardware Address Setting
Configure the RBUS node address through onboard DIP-switches before power is applied.
Node numbers are defined by binary DIP-switch settings. Duplicate addresses on one RBUS bus are strictly prohibited.
Double-check DIP-switch positions, then supply 24 V DC auxiliary power to the module.
Observe front-panel LED indicators: steady Module-OK LED signifies normal power-on; flashing Bus-Fault LED points to address conflict, missing termination resistor or bus wiring defects.
Software Configuration via AIM Engineering Tool
Build communication link between the commissioning PC and RCU controller. Launch AIM Engineering Tool and log in with commissioning-level privileges.
Access the hardware tree and add a new I/O device. Select RDIO420S and enter the RBUS node address consistent with hardware DIP-switch settings.

Digital Input Channel Configuration
Define input signal type as dry-contact or 24 V DC active input.
Set input polarity to Normally Open (NO) or Normally Closed (NC).
Adjust input debounce filter time (typical 0-200 ms) to filter out field contact chattering.
Map each physical input channel to system logical tags for alarms, status feedback and interlock signals.
Digital Output Channel Configuration
Select output operation mode: direct control or interlock-linked output.
Define fail-safe status (de-energized or energized) triggered by RBUS communication dropout.
Assign application-side logical control signals to corresponding physical output channels.
Module-Wide Global Parameters
Configure watchdog timeout and module reaction upon RBUS communication failure.
Toggle enable or disable for channel short-circuit diagnostic function.
Define fault reporting rules for the plant alarm system.
Download & Activate Configuration
Compile the project within AIM Engineering Tool and clear all configuration errors and warnings.
Download the compiled project database to the RCU main controller.
Trigger a hot-swap re-initialization command for RDIO420S to load updated parameters, or cycle module power supply.
Check online status in AIM hardware tree; confirm RDIO420S shows “Operational” with no active module-related fault alarms.
Function Commissioning & Channel Test
Manually toggle field digital input contacts, and validate corresponding logical tag state changes in AIM tool and HMI workstation.
Activate each digital output channel using the software force-output function, and confirm correct response of field-side actuators.
Test diagnostic capability by simulating open-circuit and short-circuit conditions at I/O terminals; verify relevant channel fault alarms are raised.
Monitor RBUS bus performance for a prolonged period to ensure no sporadic bus-fault events occur.

Application Scenarios for KONGSBERG RDIO420S (316564)
1. Vessel Machinery Monitoring & Control
Acquire binary status feedback and execute on/off control for main engine auxiliary equipment, including lube oil pumps, cooling water pumps, ventilation fans and process valves.
2. Alarm & Condition Monitoring System
Collect dry-contact alarm and status signals from on-site pressure, temperature and level switches. Output relay signals to drive local alarm annunciators and transmit fault information to the upper monitoring system.
3. Marine Safety Interlock Control
Perform equipment protection and logic interlock functions under the K-Safe safety system. Realize interlock control for marine pumps, compressors and valve actuators to avoid abnormal operation and equipment damage.
4. Local Distributed I/O Expansion
Expand the digital I/O capacity of RCU controllers. Deployed in local machinery cabinets to shorten field sensor wiring distance, reduce signal interference and optimize on-site cabling layout.
5. Ship Cargo Handling System
Monitor working status of cargo valves, limit switches and cargo pump running feedback; provide switching control commands for relevant cargo handling actuators.
6. Bilge & Ballast Management System
Gather level switch signals from bilge tanks and ballast tanks, and implement automatic or manual control of bilge pumps and ballast valves to ensure vessel drainage and ballast adjustment.
7. Marine Power Management Auxiliary Signal Processing
Collect circuit breaker switching status and fault alarm signals from ship power distribution cabinets. Output remote trip and enable control commands to assist stable operation of the vessel power management system.
